A group of club members, friends and family recently travelled over the sea to the beautiful County of Cork to join with our dear friends at Cobh CSC in a fund raising event for ARC House. The Cobh Bhoys have continued the Celtic tradition of caring for those less fortunate than ourselves since they formed nine years ago. This year they decided they wished to donate the funds in memory of our late President Charlie Lynch. We were delighted to be invited to join them and we donated the proceeds of the St Patrick’s Day raffle, sponsorship of a “Mini-Marathon” raised by the “two Joes “ and various other contributions received. The sum presented came to 2270 euro, although the crowd in Cobh Ramblers hall were more delighted to learn that it was 1888 in sterling. Perhaps somebody up there was lending a helping hand. This brought the total amount raised for ARC to nearly 9500 euro, a magnificent achievement by the lads. Sandra Boyle, Charlie’s loving partner of 22 years, presented a Walfrid’s Well Certificate to the boys in his memory. Another fresh water well being dug in Nigeria which will bear the names of Charlie and Cobh CSC, a lasting token of true Celtic friendship. The rest of the evening was something of a blur due to the emotion and not the black stuff, Honest ! I’d like to thank John Houten, Cobh CSC President, for his kind words on the night and the hospitality shown to us all through out the weekend. His speeches however are growing longer as mine get shorter. The quiet night laid on, in the Wolfe Tone bar, gave us all a chance to rest and recuperate without which we would never have kept the singing going till 05:00 that morning. We look forward to your next visit to Greenock and have started saving for your 10th anniversary celebrations next year. Many thanks from all your fellow Celts in Greenock. Tommy Dornan President Some pictures are on the Gallery page.
